Matthew Barrett, BA, MDiv, PhD
Tutor of Systematic Theology and Church History
Matthew Barrett is originally from California. He received his BA from Biola University in La Mirada, CA, and his MDiv and PhD from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.
He is the author and editor of several books, including: 40 Questions about Salvation, Reformation Theology, Godís Word Alone, Owen on the Christian Life, Four Views on the Historical Adam, Salvation by Grace, The Grace of Godliness, and Whomever He Wills.
He is the series editor of The 5 Solas Series with Zondervan, as well as the founder and executive editor of Credo Magazine, an evangelical publication that seeks reformation and transformation in the church today.
Matthew is passionate about theology and loves nothing more than seeing his students hungry to learn the great doctrines of the faith in order to know God more. Having served as a pastor in the local church, he is a theologian with a pastor's heart.
John Calvinís words sum it up: 'Christianity is a doctrine not of the tongue, but of the life, and is not apprehended merely by the intellect and memory like other sciences, but it is revealed only when it possesses the whole soul and finds its seat and habitation in the innermost recesses of the heart' (Institutes, III.6.4).
Matthew is married to Elizabeth and they have four children. They can usually be found traveling on the tube around London, watching movies with popcorn and candy, and looking for sunlight somewhere in London.
