David Powlison interview

David Powlison, the Director of the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF), recently gave a lecture at Oak Hill entitled "Being Heard: What are people thinking when you talk with them?"

Steve Midgley, Senior Minister of Christ Church, Cambridge, who leads the Biblical Counselling UK Certificate of Biblical Counselling, sat down to talk with David about the meaning and approach of biblical counselling.

Says David: "I would describe Christian counselling as the conversational aspect of Christian ministry. We're all used to the public aspect of preaching, teaching, sacrament, worship. We're all used the the private aspect of personal reflection, Bible study, quiet time, prayer. And then we all do the conversational, relational aspect, but historically the church has not thought about that in an intentional, biblical, focused way."

David says the aim of his work is to "bring counselling back as one of the core ministries of the church of Jesus Christ."
